Leaving a legacy: The Lady Eleanor Society
Will you consider leaving a legacy to Whittington Castle?
There is evidence that the Castle site and grounds in Whittington have been occupied since the Iron Age. For the last 13 years the care of this ancient site and Norman Castle has been the responsibility of the Whittington Castle Preservation Trust (WCPT). It is our role to preserve this wonderful resource for our local community and visitors to the area.
We can only survive with support from our own income and those kind enough to leave us a gift. Will you consider leaving something in your Will to help us and leave something tangible for future generations?
We appreciate that making a will is a sensitive and highly personal matter, but should you decide to leave a gift to us, we would love to know so we can thank you properly during your lifetime. Informing us of your plans will also give us the opportunity to ensure we fully understand your wishes. Everyone who chooses to leave a legacy in their Will to the Castle will become a member of the Lady Eleanor Society. In the C14th, Lady Eleanor, who married Fulk VI, created the Castle’s pleasure garden and refurbished the apartments
Legacies left to Whittington Preservation Trust and other charities can help reduce the inheritance tax burden on your family or others named in your will. The current inheritance tax threshold is £325,000, with tax paid at 40% on the rest of your estate. Any legacy gift to charity is free from inheritance tax, income tax and capital gains tax. In addition, if you leave at least 10% of your estate to charity, the inheritance tax due on the balance is reduced to 36%.
