Further update from the Castle.
Although we can’t open kitchen@thecastle yet we have been beavering away in the background to secure funding for the Castle. I am delighted to say that we have been successful in securing a place among 150 other heritage sites across the country to participate in an initiative led by Heritage Compass. This will give us free training and mentoring and the opportunity to share best practice in all areas of income generation. We are very excited about this as many more people will get to know about Whittington Castle.
We are also in the process of bidding for a second round of funds from the Heritage Lottery Recovery Fund to support the full reopening of the Castle in the summer, all being well. We were successful in the first round and have our fingers crossed for this one. We will know the outcome at the end of March. We have a fantastic events programme lined up for this year when we are freer to move around so watch this space. Meanwhile, do have a go at participating in our photography competition.
Unfortunately, we were not successful with securing £1,000 from the Ecclesiastical Fund this time, despite so many of you supporting us – but we won’t give up.
Securing funds and participating in heritage initiatives mean that we stand a very good chance of coming through this year. As a charity, relying only on what we can earn through our various activities and the generosity of you, our supporters, it’s a tense time. To steal from the title of our latest photography competition though – there is light at the end of the tunnel.
