Many people come to Whittington Castle to feed the Ducks and watch our family of Swans. We provide duck food for people to purchase and the ducks are extremely tame.
Late spring the site comes alive with ducklings and cygnets. At this time of year Bille and Betty the swans are extremely protective of their family – so please be careful and try not to disturb them.
Whittington Castle is a historic monument and a site of special wildlife interest. It is important that all visitors respect the site, and for this reason we regret that we do not allow rice or confetti to be thrown in the Castle grounds or building.
However, as an alternative, you can purchase edible confetti which is safe for the local wildlife. We have teamed up with Shropshire Wildlife Trust to produce special bags safe for the ducks and swans. Each bag sold helps this charity. Please ask for details.
Dogs are allowed into the grounds of the Castle but we do ask that they are kept on a lead and kept under control as this is a site for wildlife. Please do not allow your dogs to foul the site – bins are provided.
There are many suitable family walks around the grounds of the castle or following the public footpath through the village and across the neighbouring field passing a play area.

The site is also suitable for picnics as long as you do not mind sharing some with our friendly ducks, moorhens, coots and swans.
