The 7 cygnets from Whittington Castle have been moved to a new home on the banks of the River Severn just south of Atcham. Each year the cygnets try to fly away from the landlocked moat at the castle once they are almost grown. However they do not have long enough run way to take off safely from the site and are at risk from the busy A495 road and overhanging cables. This year a licence was applied for and permission granted from the Queens swan master to move the cygnets to their new home. The RSPCA armed with the licence, hooks and special bags
in which to transport the birds took on the task on Wednesday
13th December 2011., Once cygnet decided to play hide
and seek but was eventually caught with the others.
Bill and Betty the parents watched and have now settled back without their young.
