In Remembrance – First World War Exhibition
November 9 @ 10:00 am - November 11 @ 4:00 pm
9-11th November 2018.
Open 10-4pm each day
The final exhibition in remembrance of local men who enlisted, takes place on 9th,10th, 11th November from 10-4pm each day at Whittington Castle. We look at the battles of 1918 that began with the battle of St Quentin on 21st March, followed by those of Baupaume, Rosieres and Arras in the same month. More battles followed through a ensuing months which brings us to the Battle of the Sombre-Oise Canal 1-11th November, in which Wilfred Edward Salter Owen lost his life on the fourth day.
We pay tribute to the 14 brave local British Tommy’s who lost their lives in these battles and those untraceable soldiers who were believed to be among the lost and missing.
This Exhibition is free entrance and is the work of Castle historian Sylvia Ray. Please come and view. Visitors to also note that the Poppy Display will be on show at Whittington Church at this time and may wish to combine a visit to the Exhibition with a visit to the church.
